A Gal with a Truck

It was another full week. The highlight.... we bought a '98 Chevy extended cab on Tuesday. One or more injectors, and maybe the whole pump, went bad on our '83 Chevy S10. It was a neat little truck with an Isuzu 2.2 L diesel engine. My husband converted it to run on recycled fryer oil years ago- bonus! One injector alone cost too much for it to be worth replacing... sigh. He has plans to pull out parts of his veggie oil conversion kit and get his VW Jetta running on it though. And our tax return ought to pay for more than half of the new truck.

So far, in just a handful of days, we have used the new truck to haul sand for a sand box, rolls of welded wire fencing, and a rented wood chipper. That also means that we:
  • drove two separate 3 hour trips to look at, get the engine compression tested, and then purchase the truck,
  • ordered lumber for a sandbox,
  • hauled sand for a sandbox,
  • bought fencing and unloaded it in the pasture,
  • rented a chipper, chipped nearly all the trees we cleared from the back side of the dam. (Some trees were too big for the chipper.) Cut down and chipped up a section of Autumn Olives from along the driveway, and returned the chipper.
If you add the usual stuff like
  • work,
  • mowing,
  • schooling,
  • Confessions,
  • Mass,
  • children's choir,
  • a violin lesson,
  • a piano lesson,
  • laundry, and
  • grocery shopping,
that makes for one full week. Oh, and the lock-out episode was this week too, remember? We also visited my uncle in the nursing home an hour and a half away this week. And did I mention that we re-arranged the living room furniture again? (I still can't find the right set-up.) Even the second coyote sighting was this week, as was selling more square bales to our neighbor with the new horses, and talking over the upcoming haying season with the guy across the road who cut for us last year. Plus, I pulled some fence posts and cut some cabling, and cleared a small section of the front fencerow so as to mow at the entry to our drive- and did mow it. Then there was the Easter clothes shopping. Whew!
